Estheim Hope

Hope Estheim is a playable character in Final Fantasy XIII and appears in Final Fantasy XIII-2. He is the son of Nora and Bartholomew Estheim, who works for the Sanctum.
In Final Fantasy XIII, Hope loses his mother during the Purge. He chooses to travel with Lightning in order to become stronger, and avenge his mother's death by getting revenge against the person he holds responsible, Snow Villiers.

In Final Fantasy XIII-2, a 24-year-old Hope appears as a major supporting character. He is the head of a scientific expedition team called the Academy. Because of his research, he knows that Serah and Noel Kreiss are traveling through time, and he helps them in their quest to find Lightning and save the future.
