Figma Dead Master Review

Figma Dead Master Review
06 Nov 2010 00:59:19

(Hey look it's the snazzy banner I made for that blog I never ended up using.)

As much as the Black Rock Shooter OVA disappointed me I still love Huke's characters they just have so much personalty that they don't need an anime to interesting. Dead Master is presented as the main villain of the OVA. The former best friend of Black Rock Shooter who attempts to defeat her and save her from the darkness that consumes her. (or something like that)

Packaging 9/10
She comes in a larger sized Figma box it seems a bit big for the amount of stuff she comes with but it shows them off well. I particularity love the art they used for her distage insert it's an image of a cracking skull.

Sculpting 10/10
The sculpting on Dead Master is pretty much perfect it captures the charter perfectly and despite being mostly unpainted the sculpt still has enough detail to look fine.

Paint 9/10
There is not much panted parts but what is panted is well done. She is mostly just cast in the appropriate colors in particular her wings and horns are made of clear plastic it has a nice effect. The only problem with the paint is her skin around her collar and back they are panted over black plastic and the color just looks slightly off.

Articulation 9/10
She has all of the articulation you would expect from a Figma with nothing to get in the way. Her head in particular has a great range of motion. However her wists are a bit floppy when holding her scythe in one hand, but she holds it completely fine with both hands.

Accessories 8/10
She doesn't seem to come with that much stuff but maybe it's because you end up using most of them.
She has her scythe witch looks great and she holds it fairly well. And of course she has her skulls who's jaws can open and close, they are supported in the air with poles (that can be plugged in to a distage) they do a descent enough job but if you want them to look more dynamic you'll need some spare Figma stand arms. She also has an extra face four extra sets of hands and the standard Figma stand, hand rack and bag.

Price 8/10
At 3000 ¥ she is a bit more expensive then the average Figma but her accessories are big enough and essential enough to justify it.

Overall 10/10
It's strange I never particularly cared for Dead Master but her Figma has one me over. Despite her small flaws she is an excellent figure and in My opinion much better than the Black Rock Shooter Figma.

As usual any thoughts or suggestions on the review are welcome.

Wow, it doesn't look like you had too much trouble posing her at all. ^^ I can't wait until she finally gets in! I'm glad it seems you really enjoy her as well. :)

Love your review, as usual!
If you want some suggestions, I'd say that most of the photos are little blurred, and the light is yellowish. I guess a PS-job could heal it^__^

I like Dead Master figma much more that BRS. I've got no intention of getting either of them, but I've seen BRS "in person", and I didn't like her cloak, I thought it kinda messes with articulation. DM's outfit is better for posing I think.

Her curly hair and that face with a tongue are great!
I'm too old for this shit, ain't I?

I'm trying my best with the pictures. The camera I'm using likes to focus on specific spots rather then everything, and the pictures tend to be a bit dark. (Making them brighter makes them look less sharp)

And yeah BRS's jacket does tend to get in the way especially combined with her large twin tails, I always find it a bit annoying to pose her.

Can't wait to lay hands on mine!
Though I didn't get why do you think she's better than BRS figma. In my view, BRS one's perfect!

Normally I do prefer BRS to her but I think that DM's design just works better as a poseable figure.

From what I've seen of the two, I think the big advantage DM has is that her scythe isn't nearly as unwieldy as the Rock*Cannon. The Cannon looks really cool, but it's so awkward on the figure - the floppy wrists don't help.

My Dead Master, along with Nendo B*RS and a bunch of other stuff, just arrived. Before I open her, are there any joints I need to watch out for (like B*RS's waist)?

It doesn't seem like there's anything in particular you should watch out for, She has the typical Figma quality. Although I'd be careful removing her fringe as to not damage her horns.
