Heydrich Lang was a senior official of both the Goldenbaum and Goldenlöwe regimes within the Galactic Empire and New Galactic Empire respectively.
spoilerLang was head of the secret police for the Goldenbaum Kaisers and after their fall was able to persuade Paul von Oberstein that he would be a suitable choice to provide a similar service for Reinhard von Lohengramm's government.
As Chief of the Internal Security Department, Lang conspired with Adrian Rubinsky to identify the culprit of a bombing on Fezzan that killed and injured several important military and government officials. Although Rubinsky was the conspirator, he convinced Lang to frame his former aide Nikolas Boltik who now served as Fezzan's chief administrator and then to have Boltik poisoned as an apparent suicide.
For this 'triumph', Lang was appointed Vice Minister of Internal Affairs and given a large sum of money, which he donated to charity (which was his lifelong custom). However, he had left himself open to blackmail by Rubinsky who could prove Lang had murdered an innocent man. Lang was desperate to avoid participation in a delegation from Reinhard's government on Fezzan and Oskar von Reuenthal's administration on Heinessen, fearing that Reuenthal would have him killed due to their open hatred for each other.
Ultimately, Lang's crimes were uncovered by Ulrich Kessler, the head of the Imperial Military Police, and he was condemned to death. His wife personally appealed to Kessler for clemency, declaring that her husband had never been anything but kind to his family. Kessler refused, pointing out that Lang was not being condemned for his home life. During his captivity Lang took satisfaction in the death and disgrace of his personal enemy, Reuenthal, but this did not avert his own execution. When the guards came to carry out the Lang's sentence, he fainted and lost consciousness until the moment just before he was executed.
