Otakon 2012 Report - Cosplay

Otakon 2012 Report - Cosplay
05 Aug 2012 03:44:31

The Otakon 2012 report continues. This time, the coverage focuses on the cosplay pics, which I took a lot of in my terms (keep in mind that I am somewhat selective and don't take as much cosplay pictures as most people).

Starting thing out is Master Higgins from the Adventure Island series of video games for the original Nintendo systems (and the PC Engine/Turbo Grafx-16).

When it comes to not walking in the fountain area of Inner Harbor, this cosplayer has one thing to say: Screw the rules, I have money. Here's Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh.

The first of a number of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic cosplay pictures that I took during the con. Seen here in this picture are cosplays of Vinyl Scratch (AKA DJ-PON3), a minor character that has a big fan following thanks to the character's DJ motif, and Mane Six member Fluttershy (YAY!).

A trio of cosplayers as the ghosts from Pac-Man.

Blue, the lovable dog from the Nick Jr. series Blue's Clues.

Deadpool? Pretty much an awesome character to begin with. Seeing him dressed as an Akatsuki from Naruto and holding a Key Blade from Kingdom Hearts? To paraphase Princess Luna from My Little Pony: the awesomeness has been doubled. Speaking of Princess Luna...

Here's Princess Celestia, Luna's older sister and evil dictator ruler of Equestria.

Sorry, but I couldn't resist making a joke towards Celestia. Might as well prepare for a trip to the moon.

Well dressed for the hot Baltimore heat (i.e. not wearing any pants), it's Yoshika from Strike Witches.

More My Little Pony cosplay. This time, it's Pony Joe, the donut shop owner from The Best Night Ever and MMMMystery on the Friendship Expess (not super agent pony Con Mane, although I heard the cosplayer did dress up as him on Saturday).

A trio of cosplayers from the Angelic Layer. Best way to describe this show for those who haven't seen it: Busou Shinki + Fighting Tournament Anime + CLAMP.

It isn't an anime convention without a cute and sexy cat girl.

Meredy and Farah from the Playstation game Tales of Eternia (or as it's called in America thanks to copyright reasons, Tales of Destiny II).

Master Shake from the Adult Swim series Aqua Teen Hunger Force (or whatever title the show has this season, given the title changes the show has had in the two most recent seasons).

Who's hungry for cupcakes? Just like at Katsucon, someone did a Pinkie Pie cosplay a la the infamous My Little Pony fanfic Cupcakes.

Keeping with this year's theme of Otakon (food and cooking), here's Poplar from Working! (or as it's called in America due to copyright reasons, Wagnaria).

From the Pokemon video games, it's Jirachi, the Wish Pokemon.

It's nice that someone is doing some Hyperdimension Neptunia cosplay stateside (in this case, Purple Heart, the main heroine in the first and third Neptunia video games).

Yes! Someone did a cosplay of the best "non-MLP" show on the Hub: The Aquabats Super Show. For those not familiar with either the band or the show (or haven't seen them on Yo Gabba Gabba, which is co-created by the band's lead singer), the Aquabats is a ska band that has a superhero motif to it, with the TV series being something that's inspired by the works of Sid and Marty Krofft and the various Power Ranger shows. As an example of just how awesome the show is, here's a clip from the end of the show's first episode:

Momentai!!! Terriermon from the Digimon titles (with most people knowing him from the Digimon Tamers series). This was definitely a popular cosplay (as in picture ops) at the con, as I noticed a lot of people wanting to pose with Terriermon while at the con Saturday night.

Rounding out my list of cosplay pictures is the Female Hero from The Legend of Mana.

Finally, I've finished up my Otakon report for Fandom Post. You can read my report, which provides some more commentary from me about the convention here.

One more Otakon report to do. Up next: the Busou Shinki figures.

Noticed that just now.

That is most likely someone in the background walking by. Given how big Otakon is, you can probably see other cosplays in the background (either walking by or posing for another picture) along with the main person that I'm trying to take a picture of.
