Mushi-shi's Ginko - Another Grail Scored!

Mushi-shi's Ginko - Another Grail Scored!
29 Jun 2018 20:04:43

Hello MAS!!!

So as some of you likely know (based on prior articles :D)...I've become a bit in love with RAH figures. I will clearly state however it is a LOVE / HATE relationship...without a doubt.

Before we get into the specifics of that however, let me say...that I got one of my grails in today!!! Yay!!! Meet Mushi-shi's Ginko, another Medicom RAH!!

I never thought I would be able to own this figure, as every time I saw him for sale, he was like $800-$1000 USD. YIKES. ONE time I saw him for around $450, but it was bad timing and I had to pass (and glad I did...as I got him for MUCH cheaper via an auction...LUCKY!!). After I won him, I did see him up on Ebay for just under $400 though, which still makes me excited for my purchase, as I won the auction for him for around $78...in total it was right at $100 shipped!!! I was thinking the whole time this is a scam, but screw it...I'm willing to risk it!!!

Well needless to say, I got him in today!!! The box was a wee bit damaged, just a few creased areas where it got a little smushed somewhere, but no biggie for me, as long as he's ok right?

So after taking him out and inspecting, he seems to be in GREAT shape. The only flaw they noted was that one of his cigarettes were missing...and luckily he comes with two, so no big deal!! So, I start posing him and snapping some photos...he is BEAUTIFUL, so true to the anime!!! They did a wonderful job on his clothes and sculpt, he's exactly like the Ginko I recall from the series!!!

He even came with a scroll (which I didn't snapshot), one of the cocoons they use for sending mail, his travel box (with straps, that you can actually strap him into - sorry I didn't get a better pic of that), and a saki bowl!!

Now, for a bit more explanation on my LOVE / HATE relationship with RAH's...as seeing this guy, how could you NOT love these things...they are amazing!! Well, let me tell you how...because there was a long period of time where Medicom made these with crap plastic. And no, I'm not exaggerating...spend not even 5 minutes browsing the net and you will find article after article of frustrated owners, all with the EXACT same issue....broken hips and shoulders. Why you ask...playing too rough or something? No. The plastic literally just disintegrates and crumbles and so any pressure at all and BAM....there goes your figure's leg or arm. It just falls off.

So...here I am with my treasured Ginko, and OF COURSE as I'm wrapping up my initial photoshoot, on cloud 9 from this guy...BAM. His right arm just falls off.

I want to just fall into the floor and cry...because let me tell you, finding a perfect replacement body for these guys...is a BIOCH!!!! The RAH bodies are slimmer than most, they are way paler than most...and the neck adapter is a bit different than most. And dammit...Ginko's arms show a little so I can't be having him mismatch...so now I'm going to have to go on a quest to find another RAH to disassemble for Ginko's sake (and PRAY it's the right color!!!). Ugh, so upsetting...especially when I just did a body replacement for Light Yagami and while it works, it's not ideal (and guess why...YES (you're GOOD!!)....both arms AND one of his legs fell off). *sigh*

Anyway, here are my treasures sitting on my shelf (Ginko's right arm is just kind of hanging in place in his shirt, half propped up by his hand in his lap). I still love him though, and would have bought him for that same price 100x even if I had known his arm was falling off!!!! Cuz he's AMAZING!!!!!

Bye MAS!!!!! ...and thanks for reading!!! :D

Congrats! He is really amazing, especially considering that this is almost the only Ginko figure on current market
Finding him for a reasonable price is a pain, but you made it! I waited 2 or 3 years till finally found the one I could afford.
As for broken joint...unfortunately been there, done that. Broke his right wrist. Have you tried looking for Ginko parts for sale? I found cloth from his second version with two pairs of hands included on mandarake. Pretty sure that yahoo has even more those random hidden gems.
Anyway, you got yourself a great figure, so enjoy!

Ah Congrats fellow Ginko owner!! :D And good deal finding some replacement parts. I saw where Mandarake at one time had his exclusive version jacket and scarf for sale, but no other parts (and sadly that had long been sold out...I would've loved to snatch that up). I am scouring Yahoo JP for anything I can find, but only whole Ginko's have popped up so far (and for crazy prices too)..no Ginko parts or accessories so far. :(

I am thinking of just ordering another figure (not Ginko though...something far cheaper) and seeing if I can use it for parts or a body replacement (whole replacement if it matches...parts if it does not). But man....even older RAH's are expensive and folks sell the RAH 301 Naked Kai body (one of the FEW stand alone bodies Medicom sold) for stupid amounts. It would suck to drop $60 on a 8-10 year old replacement body, get it in, and BAM....same shit happens. LOL...would DEFINITELY be my luck! LOL!!

I'm a pretty persistent bastard though, I WILL fix him...eventually!!! :D LOL, thanks for your kind words!!! Despite the buzz killer there at the end, I am still ECSTATIC to own this guy....he is truly a great figure indeed!!

It could be me, who bought the exclusive version jacket and scarf. It had other parts as well. I got VERY lucky I guess

Other RAH figures are expensive and as you said, nobody guarantees you that it will not break again. Just in case, have you broke wrist, elbow or shoulder joint? And couldn't you glue or repair it? I saw manuals on how to fix Figma joints with a plastic from a cotton swab.
Anyway, I hope you will find a way to fix and display him properly. All this search for the figure itself shouldn't be wasted.

Ah no worries....I have my money's worth of enjoyment out of him already....broken arm or not, just seeing him sit on that shelf like that makes me happy dammit. Worst case, I'll make a mini 1/6 scale sling and let him really own and flaunt that broken arm!! LOL...not like he didn't have many blunders and hurt himself a few times in the show!!! LOL!!

On a side note though, I did order two other RAH's this past week, in hopes of using them for parts and frankensteining my Ginko back together so he doesn't have that broken arm. I'm hoping I can use the newer body (it's from 2013), but replace the neck and chest pieces (so the skin color is right), as well as the lower portion of the arms...leaving the shoulders and hips and such (which are ALWAYS the problem areas for breakage it seems) with the parts from the new figure. In theory, it should work and would then mean a fully functioning Ginko with no visible indicators that his body may not be his own (unless you undress him of course, as he has a very unique skin color...so I have no delusions of trying to match that).

These guys:

I got both of these spare RAH figures for about $50 ea. One is from 2010, so it could very well crumble as soon as I take it out of the box, but it was a brand new so still seemed like a good deal and worth the risk (it was Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, the blue coat edition). The other is some guy I have NEVER heard of and there is zero chance I'd ever want to display him....but good thing about him is the newer body, and his coat looks REMARKABLY similar to the one Hei wears when he has his casual clothing on in Darker than Black (may have to dye it a little so it's a little more green than olive/tan though)...and it just so happens my Hei figure has TWO heads....so I could maybe even use that to eventually piece together another body for a second Hei so I can display him both with and without the mask (as hopefully I could use that white undershirt too)! :D

Anywya, sorry this is so long, but thanks for the advice and well wishes....If all goes well I'll add another post in case anyone else wants to try body transplant surgery on theirs in the future, in case this may assist. :D

I thought you just want to repair the broken part in your Ginko, but your plans to replace most of the troublesome parts are amazing! I guess it is easier to do "frankensteining" once and just forget about this breakage problem in general. Hope you will succeed and I will be happy to see your post of how you did it.
