Figure News: Figmas and Revoltechs amidst the WF hype

Figure News: Figmas and Revoltechs amidst the WF hype
22 Jan 2011 00:58:50

Well, Wonder Festival is creeping closer and closer, but this isn't stopping companies from revealing (or leaking, as the case may be) new products! First up would be the revelation that Max Factory is stretching their Kamen Rider Ryuki Dragon Knight license to its full limits.

Kamen Rider Taiga Axe is old news at this point, and while this is the first colored image of Kamen Rider Imperer Spear, that's not the interesting aspect. What's got my attention roused is that they appear to be making a Figma of Kamen Rider Ryuki Dragon Knight in his pre-contract state. This really doesn't strike me as a very logical choice - not only is Blank Knight a repaint of Ryuki, but the form only had a minimal appearance in both the original and Americanized series. It makes me think that Blank Knight is going to be released as an exclusive, as if to say to Bandai, "Not only did we get your beloved franchise, but we're releasing more characters/forms than you ever would! Nyeh!" Which does have some truth to it - Kabuto and Double are really the only series for which Bandai's made all the main Riders, and even then, they haven't bothered with forms such as this one. Regardless, no date was given for Figma Blank Knight, but this may also be of interest...

Who's that Pokémon!?

Max Factory has also revealed the blurred silhouette for the fabled Figma #100, which will be shown in full at Wonder Festival. Not much is clear in this image, but many people appear to see long, curved twintails on the figure. Popular guesses include Hatsune Miku Append ver., Sailor Moon (pleasebetruepleasebetruepleasebetrue), or Good Smile Company mascot Gumako. While we'll know for sure within a few weeks, it's still fun to guess! But some companies are better at keeping secrets than others. One of those "others" would be Kaiyodo...

"I've got a jar of diiiirrrrt, I've got a jar of - wait a second..."

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is due out this spring, and Kaiyodo is promoting it by adding the one and only Captain Jack Sparrow into their Sci-Fi Revoltech line! While this image isn't necessarily finalized (there may be more accessories revealed later), it looks so far like the main accessory is going to be an admittedly impressive base, like many of the figures in the line. Of course, a bottle of rum would be a must for Jack, and his compass or the iconic jar of dirt would be nice. But in the meantime, we an at least see that Kaiyodo got the likeness of Johnny Depp down to a solid level. At least he looks better than the Christian Bale head included with Batman.

Captain Jack Sparrow is due out on April 1st. Another April Revoltech release would be a slightly unexpected, but undeniably wonderful choice...

...This choice being none other than Jehuty, the main Orbital Frame featured in the PS2 cult-classic Zone of the Enders series! Only a small number of images have been leaked, but those few have confirmed that one of Jehuty's accessories will be the "ENEMY" ring that appeared in-game. In addition, Jehuty isn't the only Orbital Frame getting the Revoltech treatment; as the leak revealed that the Anubis unit is also in production! Jehuty was mentioned in the Revoltech Yamaguchi #100 Twitter as one of the things #100 wasn't, like Gunbuster. Since both of these seemingly-hypothetical choices ended up to be confirmed later releases, does that mean that GaoGaiGar is officially confirmed, too?

Anyway, now comes the obligatory Figma-#100-guessing, Jehuty-accessory-discussing, Blank-Knight-availability-predicting, and cowering-in-fear-from-Christian-Bale's-PVC-likeness that comes with articles of this sort. Sound off below!
