Figure News: Preorders from GSC, Kotobukiya, others up
05 Oct 2010 19:42:18

It seems I spoke a bit too soon yesterday, because another batch of preorders is now going up on the major retailers. The first is a huge and frankly wonderful-looking piece, Good Smile Company's Saber Alter ~Vortigern~!

"None shall pass."

Rounding out GSC's trio of 1/7 Sabers, Saber Alter also includes some extra parts. It's nowhere near the level of, say, MegaHouse's P.O.P. series, but you do get a removable faceplate, as well as the massive Vortigern blade!

"So, you gonna chop my limbs off this time?"

The one tidbit of bad news, however, is that the figure has been delayed to April 2011. This seems pretty inevitable (GSC, as much as I love their figures, is rather incompetent when it comes to getting products out on time), and it wouldn't be unreasonable to say that we won't actually get it until mid-May. But cheer up, reader! Have a fan-favorite character!

"Hello, yaoi-partner Shinji-kun."

From Gainax's favorite cash-cow Evangelion comes this MegaHouse G.E.M. statue of Kaworu Nagisa. The figure is due out in January, but unlike the previous G.E.M. releases (from Gintama), there aren't any alternate parts this time. And as nice as Kaworu looks, the base also looks a little underwhelming - I think that if they moved Kaworu forward a bit and added the Lance of Longinus impaling the ground behind him, the effect would be simple yet iconic. Maybe I'll have to see how it looks with the Lance from Fraulein Rei. Regardless, I'm somewhat on the fence about Kaworu. Moving on...

Silly cats, trying to trip her. You want the cake or something?

For something completely different, you could always try Yamato's Super Soniko Babydoll ver., which also comes in a cheaper version with just Soniko. The sculpt for Soniko looks really nice, but I'll admit that I have no idea who she is - a character from one of NitroPlus's VNs or something? Anyway, both of these are due out in February (along with Kaworu, and this upcoming girl).

I would say Haters Gonna Hate, but she needs to look more smug.

Remember that statue of Kirino Kousaka (the titular little sister of "My Little Sister Can't be This Cute")? Well, it just went up for order for those who are interested. Frankly, I couldn't care less about this girl - her design looks pretty generic IMO, and I didn't really enjoy the novels or the first episode of the anime. However, this does look like a nice, chirpy representation of the gal, so fans can preorder her now. And yeah, I'd say that this figure can be that cute.

Bugs are already dead.

Also from Kotobukiya is this new HoiHoi-san kit, the Dress-up Set. While the kit itself is extremely bare-bones, that's precisely the intention - this kit was designed for the growing number of HoiHoi customizers, so they can get a cheap HoiHoi head and body without getting the full kit! I don't customize myself, but I love seeing the cool things people make, and having manufacturers encourage this trend makes me very happy indeed. HoiHoi is, like a lot of these figures, due out in February.

It's Bruce!

In January, Kotobukiya will release their third Mega Man kit - Protoman! However, Amiami had a rather amusing typo with this one. They unintentionally romanized Protoman's Japanese name, Blues, as "Bruce." See for yourself here, although they may notice and correct it in a while. It's kind of like how Hobby Search is prone to typos (their listing for Revoltech Woody called him "Woddy" for several months, and the Figuarts line was "Figurets" until last summer). From now on, I'm totally going to refer to Protoman as Bruce.

Typos aside, is anyone interested in any of these fine figures? I'm tempted to grab Saber Alter, and maybe Kaworu or Bruce. Sound off in the comments below!
