Figure News: October Hobby Japan Scans
23 Sep 2010 18:58:07

Well, it's that time of the month again. The October issue of Hobby Japan is making its rounds on the *chans, and with it comes a wealth of new information about upcoming figures.

Nendoroids

"What are you lookin' at, punk? Imma gon' mess you up!"

From My Little Sister Can't be this Cute! comes a Nendo of Kirino Kousaka. I honestly do not get the appeal of this character one bit - she appears to be a dime-a-dozen tsundere schoolgirl. Yet Japan seems to have an obsession with her, as there's already been Nendoroids, Figmas, and PVCs of her announced before her anime has even aired. Regardless, if you're like much of Japan and are already in love with Kirino, she's due out in February.

At least her abs don't look like... yeah...

FREEing is releasing a decidedly saucier Nendoroid (I never thought I'd be saying that) in the form of Risty from Queen's Blade. I'm honestly surprised that they picked Risty over one of the more popular characters, but hey.

Moe-juggernaut K-On shows no signs of stopping, as the announcement of Nendoroid Ui Hirasawa shows. Ui comes with two bodies, and is due out in January.

Magical Marine Pixel Mari-tan, widely known for being a lot more crass than it sounds, has had a successful run of Nendoroids, and Army-san seems to be continuing that run. Army-san is a Hobby Japan exclusive, however.

Last is this two-pack of Nanoha Petit Nendoroids. I wish they'd get around to making Petits of Subaru and Zafira...

Scale PVCs

"WHY AM I SO POPULARRRRRR"

Kotobukiya is continuing the march of the imouto with this 1/8 figure, also due out in February.

Azusa, stop photobombing!

TakaraTomy and Furyu are both doing figures of Yuri and Tenshi from Angel Beats. While TakaraTomy's pair looks nicer, they're also 6cm smaller (11cm as opposed to 17cm).

I can't quite put my finger on it, but something seems a bit derpy about Alter's Ritsu Tainaka. The drumset looks wonderful, but Ricchan herself looks a bit... eh. Once again, a February release for this figure.

Another month, another Tony Taka figure...

Alter also has a 1/8 figure of Shining Wind's Houmei planned, based on Tony Taka's artwork. I have no idea what the character's supposed to look like, but this does look like a pretty cool figure.

...Or two.

Koyobukia's PHANTOM EX-Xecty is also based on a Taka piece. To be blunt, I never got the appeal of Tony Taka - I mean, his art's nice, but not so wonderful to warrant such obsessive figure-making IMO. I'd gladly sacrifice a few of these pieces to let some other artists get figures.

HeartCatch PreCure figures? How delightful! Cure MArine and Cure Blossom are due out in November. As much as I'd like a Figuarts of the former, they'd have to include 10-15 extra faces to befit the queen of reaction faces.

Good Smile Company also revealed more pictures of their Saber Alter ~Hammer of the Iron King~ 1/7 figure. It seems that all of these companies are determined to make February as brutal as possible for collectors' wallets - although knowing GSC, they probably won't actually release this until March or April.

Posable Figures

The King of Pimps has arrived!

In December, Max Factory plans to release a Figma of Erio Mondial from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS. Most of his accessories this time around are merely effect parts (not that that's a bad thing, but I would have loved a couple more faces). Once they get around to releasing Caro, Zafira, and Chrono, they'll have pretty much covered the entire cast!

ZOMG HELLO TEH REI

Another classic character gets a Figma - this time, it's Evangelion's Rei Ayanami! Due out in January, Rei includes an entry plug seat, a cellphone, and three faces (slightly frowning, slightly smiling, and slightly angry). I'd love it if they would include one more accessory like Asuka's doll or Mari's ZA BEASTO cuffs, but it's no biggie. The plug seat is impressive enough.

You got the medals one two and three, life goes on, anything goes, comin' up OOOs! *intense ska solo*

What got me really excited was the announcement of an S.H. Figuarts of Kamen Rider OOO/Ozu. This version, in the Tacobar, erm, TaToBa Combo, comes with the Medajalibur sword as well as flippable claws. The only catch is that you can't swap parts with whatever other OOO Figuarts may come out in the future.

So, is there anything in this issue that catches your fancy? I certainly plan on snagging Figuarts OOO, and perhaps the Rei. Sound off in the comments below!
