Figure News: Touhou Figma Updates; Otacute Issues
14 Sep 2010 18:24:36

Yo, guys! Today's quite a good day for fans of the quirky doujin shooters of the Touhou Project, as there's big news relating to Figmas for the series. First off, Figma Sakuya Izayoi is now shipping.

Maid of the Scarlet Devil Mansion and waifu of Dio Brando, Sakuya includes six knives, a mop, three faces, and a sheet of semi-solid decals to portray the emotions from the games.

ZA WARUDO!

People who've ordered her will probably get a shipping confirmation shortly. Speaking of Touhou, Mikatan was so kind as to reveal more information on the next Figma of the Touhou series: Aya Shameimaru!

SYAMEIMARU! SYAMEIMARU!

The devoted-but-gossipy tengu reporter includes a number of accessories for all your interviewing needs, including her crow familiar, a camera, and a notebook.

Nevermore...?

She also comes with two attachments for her stand - one that functions as a mini-stand for the crow (similar to the Ten-chan included with Figma Lum), and one that allows you to attach her own wings.

Enter attack formation!

But it wouldn't be a Figma unless it came with extra faces, and Aya is no exception. She has a cocky, smiling face reminiscent of a certain Miss Suzumiya, a calmer smile, and this... distressed face.

"Oh god, I think I'm laying an egg!"

Like Reimu, Marisa, and Sakuya before her, Aya is an exclusive to a select few stores - NicoNico Chokuhan, Anibro, Toranoana, and Animate. So rev up those proxies! She's going to cost 2800 yen + proxy fees (so probably around $40USD before shipping), and is due out in January. Of course, Otacute will carry her as well. But you may have second thoughts about Otacute after reading this...

Otacute recently pulled a move that some consider quite unfair on people who ordered Figma Sakuya Izayoi from them. They recently sent out an email to those who ordered her saying that they've changed the price of the item from $29.90 to $39.90, and that you'll have to pay the additional $10 if you want her. While the decision isn't economically unsound (given that Reimu and Marisa were $40 from them, and the yen's been soaring in value this summer), it also seems like a pretty shady move to pull on your customers. If you've ordered Sakuya and this price hike changed your mind, they'll cancel the order if you ask (which is unusual for them). With their beer-box misadventures, "special sources" for obtaining exclusives, ominous customer-service messages, and now sudden price increases, maybe the Otakuza jokes aren't completely unfounded after all. Either way, I'm probably gonna use a proxy for Aya - that way, I can snag an exclusive Figuarts or something nifty from Akiba while I'm at it.

So what about you guys? Anyone excited about Shameimaru or disappointed by the Otacute incident? Sound off in the comments!
