Open beta: figures
02 Oct 2013
It’s been a long time since our last update!
And it’s not only that I have no time but I’m also trying to rewrite that one thing: our figurines database. It has been out there for a while and it certainly has not been getting any easier to rewrite and I made my mind eventually :)
So what’s in the update? :)
Nothing, ha-ha! Actually there is quite a lot. I completely rewrote the scripts that generate queries to figure database. Getting a list of figures was a problem before, now it’s much simpler. That aside there is also JSON API now and that’s quite cool.
What did actually change for the users?
Nothing at all! The current site functions are the same but we have one new thing that we are going to test until it can be deployed onto our current database.
Thus said I proudly present you this wonder:
Some basic points:
Combined page navigation. Go with usual pages or activate the “endless scroll” if you’d like. Your latest choice is saved in cookies. Change your mind anytime!
Filtering and sorting are now working via AJAX queries and JSON API which allows for refreshing the data only instead of reloading the page completely.
Switching between view options (big pictures, avatars, lines) now happens without querying the server at all.
Filter data now goes straight to the URL! This is much more effective than using # since the filter is not reset after refreshing the page.
Problems I’m aware of:
There is no grouping by title/character/etc
System works a bit weird with IE7-8. Something would be fixed and something would not be. It’s time to give up on those browsers already!
There are some bugs with the “endless scroll” on tablets and smartphones. Our mobile device adaptation is quite poor but most things work pretty well.
Your bug could be here.
