Hi again,
Please let me introduce our latest update. This time it’s going to be kinda unusual, I guess. Are you ready? Go!
We have added an anime database to MyAnimeShelf!
Huh, it was unexpected, wasn’t it? Ok, I will explain its main points first; and will share some of my personal thoughts afterwards.
What exactly we did is…
- We created and installed the service which enables you to add anime to our database, edit it and even grab it to your own shelf, although it looks more like a list for now. Off course, you are also able to rate series, make comments, etc.
- We actually imported the anime database to MyAnimeShelf. I mean the titles. Most likely it is incomplete, but at least you should find all the series, which are more or less popular.
As to details and pictures, they are missing — but (but!) you can provide them by editing a particular anime. You are also welcome to add characters: they will be used for our future character database. All you need to know in order to edit anime correctly is written within the editor form.
As usual, you will receive SP (
In fact, you will receive 0.1 SP for every field of the anime and anime character forms.
If you fill in the empty field (in other words, if you are providing the new information — not editing the existing one), there will be no moderator check. Your information will be accepted instantly — as well as you receive your
If you change the existing information, you will have to wait for moderator to come and check it.
Off course, none of us want hypothetical bastards to come and desecrate our ‘shelf’ by writing crappy things in order to gain SP.
Because of that I kindly ask everyone to report every incident of abuse you may find. You can simply edit the ‘wrong’ information or contact me using any method you like. The disturbers will be punished.
As you know, SP is used to take part in events and get a chance to win prizes. Thus, we’re having Winter Lottery event nowadays… and there are more to follow!
Be sure all the winners will receive their prizes only after we check whether they were honest or not.
What we are doing now is linking our anime and figurines databases. To this effect the ‘Add a figurine!’ form was slightly changed. It may look a bit complicated at first. But it is not. Just be careful with character names and originals.
An example: K-ON!
Thank you!

Ok, that was the official part.
The anime database… well, it’s a common thing nowadays. Lots of
Off course, it’s up to you whether to use our new service or not. Yeah, the problem is that the database is kinda empty… And to tell the truth, I’m counting on you. Well, because, you know, the team — Vallefor and me — are very busy fixing bugs and upgrading stuff now.
If you want to help, but don’t know how — choose the title you like, proceed to its page, try to add the missing information and then grab it to you shelf. If you experience any problems, please report. In fact, I will greatly appreciate if everyone fills at least one anime page. It will help us to check the efficiency of the service. The other way you can contribute is simply to tell your friends about our project. More activity will lead to faster improvements and more contests.
As to SP… 0.1 SP may sound kinda weird, but the information on anime is very easy to find; and there is no moderation. So, it’s going to be fair, I guess.
Though I think I explained everything pretty clearly, you are always welcome to ask or to discuss.
Ah ya, please keep in mind that the anime database is on its earliest stage and can be changed heavily in the future.

я бы прикрутил возможность к аниме прикрутить несколько студий, ибо не всегда именно одна его создает)
в форме правки персонажа "Japaneese" - очепятка =)
пока всё)
+ было бы круто потом еще мангу прикрутить)

I've already begun by providing information about my favorite anime character, Chiyo from Azumanga Daioh (and hope to fill some information about my second-favorite anime character, Nodoka from Negima).

Azumanga is one of my favorite series, though I can't choose which girl is the cutest. Osaka and Sakaki are lovely too!

First just a little stylistic issue that's bugging me a little. With character pages, the character display names are done in Family Name, Given Name format. I was wondering if that can be switched to having the given name first? The main reason for this is that some shows have characters with Western style names that can look really awkward in that format. I came to find this very relevant when adding characters for Zero no Tsukaima. Some of these characters, mainly Louise and Kirche, have very long and complicated full names which look like jumbled messes when the family portion of the name is placed first. It looks a little better in the link on their anime pages because there is a comma there to separate the two sections of the name. But in the display name on the actual character page the comma isn't there and it can be hard to tell where the family name ends and the given name begins. Just something to think about.
The other thing I was wondering about is the system for linking figures with anime and character entries. Looking at the edit form for the K-ON! figures that are used as the example and the forms for other figures aren't linked yet, it seems that to link figures to anime you have to put the anime title (as it appears in the primary title for the Anime Database page) into the "Original - If anime" field. And to link it to character pages you'll have to put the name of the character, exactly as it appears in the character page, in the non-italic Character Name field with the "[last name], [name]" format. I'm assuming this since these two fields are blank in figures that are not linked. Is that how it works? And would all of these edits have to go through approval? This seems a little cumbersome and I have a little suggestion to make it a little easier. In the "Add Character" form in the Anime Database there is a search and link system for the Roles field. I was wondering if the same thing can be done for linking figures to the appropriate Anime (multiple Anime if appropriate) and Character pages? And can new links be exempt from approval just like new information in the Anime Database? Also if the character isn't found through the search (since a lot of characters don't have pages yet), you can prompt a link to the Add Character form. Something like "Character not found. Add Character?" Or even if it does come back with search results, since some characters can share a family or given name, you can put a message at the bottom "Didn't find the character you were looking for? Add Character." I think it'd work a lot better that way. ^_^
Edit: Thought of something else for the figure linking issue. Would it be possible to link in reverse, having an option on the Anime and Character pages to link to figures from there? Pretty much use the same system in this case that is used to link figures to user photos? Would it be possible to use both this is the system I described above together?

As to names - you're absolutely right. [last name][name] is Japanese style (that's why we tried to make it that way), but it can look terrible when it comes to Western names. I have already noticed what happened to poor Louise. Ahh, ok, changes incoming!
As to databases - unfortunately, things are much more difficult here. I already mentioned, we are linking the two bases now, that is why things look kinda cumbersome. It's a temporary solution. I'd suggest users to leave the existing figurines as they are and wait for us to link them automatically. It would be much faster for everyone. After we have all our figurines linked, all we need to do is to add the new ones with care. But I like your idea with "Character not found. Add Character?" option. I think we'll add it a bit later. Great work!
And.. as to your last edition. To be honest, I'm not sure if I got it right. You want the figurines page to display the corresponding anime and character?

But what you said actually was a thought I had when the Anime Database first came out. Maybe have "Related Anime" and "Related Character" sections at the bottom of each figure entire. That might be cool, too.
Thanks for listening to my suggestions! ^_^

a quick question about the database. Is it possible to add a figure to multiple series?
for example most of the characters of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are also in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (2000).

Manga database would become a nice addition, but we are very busy with two existing bases, thats why I can't say when we will be able to import the third one.
As to figurines and multiple series - we're discussing the necessity of it now. Would it be useful?

As for having a manga database, I personally don't think there's that much of a need for it. Most figures that are made from a manga series usually also have an anime. Only major one I can think of off the top of my head that doesn't is Yotsubato. It'd probably be more beneficial to have a Games database. But that'd probably be really difficult to manage. I think just leaving it at anime is enough, but that's just me.
26 Jan 2010, 11:29:15
So most likely it wouldn't be possible to link one figurine to several originals. At least, in the nearest future.

And one other thing, with the series and character linking, is it okay for me to help? I did edits to link all of the Toradora figures to their series and characters. Is doing that helpful or is it nearly just as much trouble going through and approving the edits as it would be to just do the linking yourselves? I can do all of the Suzumiya Haruhi series figures next if you like since there's a massive amount of them and most of it is my fault. ^_^"
Anyway, sorry if I'm getting annoying with all of my commenting. I really have way too much time on my hands right now. =P

Can I ask you to add the main characters for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure?
I haven't seen this series and have difficulties with creating their pages which are needed in order to link figurines. For example, who's Star Platinum?
