Sachiel is the third Angel, and the first to attack Tokyo 3.

Overview:
This angel takes the form of a towering humanoid with leathery black skin. On each of its outer thighs, there are 3 bony, rib-like structures that are early on revealed to be gills; on its chest lies its core held in place by more boney rib-like structures. On its shoulders, Sachiel has thick bone plates that offer it a good deal of protection. Its head appears as a pale bone circle with a long slender, almost beak-like, protrusion pointing downward, with two small black eyes. The angel's arms are rather long reaching past its knees, and end in three sharp segmented talons at the end of each hand.

After easily defeating the UN military forces sent to attack it, Sachiel was briefly stopped by an N² bomb, from which it quickly recovered. It then fought Unit 01, in Shinji Ikari's first battle against an Angel. Initially, Sachiel defeated Unit 01, driving a spike through the Eva's head. However, Unit 01 went "berserk", re-engaged Sachiel, and inflicted massive damage to the Angel's core with a broken piece of one of Sachiel's ribs. The Angel then attached itself to Unit 01 and self-destructed, but failed to destroy Unit 01.
