Otakon 2011 Figure Report - Maochao

Otakon 2011 Figure Report - Maochao
09 Aug 2011 21:34:21

Continuing with my series of reports about the figures that I got at Otakon 2011, here's my take on the second Busou Shinki figure I got at the convention, Maochao.

Sales Data
Dealer Where the Figure Got Purchased: Bluefin Corp
Purchase Price: $30

Just like Arnval, Maochao was another Busou Shinki classic that Bluefin Corp was selling at a very nice price (for one of the older Busou Shinki figures). Thus, after giving a day to space out my purchases, I decided to pick her up during my first go-round of the Dealers' Room on Saturday.

Starting things off, let's look at Maochao once you take her out of the box.

Like Arnval (and Howling, which came out the same as Maochao), Maochao only has one head. However, as seen with her (and in some aspects with Howling), Konami is beginning to show some evolution in figure design when it comes to both the cuteness of the girl and their basic outfit (i.e Maochao is showing some leg, while Arnval's outfit is full body).

Like Howling, Maochao also has a animal-based helmet and tail. However, to contrast to the dog features of Howling, her features are based around a cat, and just like Artille, I definitely needed to do Maochao in a "nyan" pose while wearing her cat helmet.

Next up is Maochao in her full. Just like Howling, her main armor covers the legs, arms, and vest area. However, one thing that I liked better with Maochao over Howling was the inclusion of the "shoulder pieces", which made connecting the arms to the "vest armor" a little bit easier IMO.

Rounding out this report, here's my main pose for Maochao. Originally, I had planned for her to be like Howling and not include the "vest armor". However, given how small pieces can be hard to find when they become loose, I ended up switching to her wearing "vest armor" (which actually fit with her battle suit much better than Howlings outfit/vest combo).

I'm halfway through with the figure reports (and more pressure to get these finished as I find more figures becoming available). However, I still have a whole lot of good stuff to cover.
