Otakon 2011 Figure Report - Arnval

Otakon 2011 Figure Report - Arnval
08 Aug 2011 05:26:23

With enough time to rest and take photos, it's time to get the most extensive portion of my Otakon reports: the photoshoots of the figures that I purchased To make this more challenging: I would like to get this done before another figure (one that's connected to one of my purchases here) arrives in the mail.

Starting things off, here's the first of the three Busou Shinkis that I purchased at Otakon: Arnval.

Sales Data
Dealer Where the Figure Got Purchased: Bluefin Corp
Purchase Price: $30

As most Busou Shinki collectors can tell you, Arnval was the first Busou Shinki figure released. So, as commented on in my Otakon Loot post, I was really lucky to find this figure for sale (and at a cheap price).

Onto the figure itself. As I mentioned before, Arnval was the Busou Shinki figure released. As a result, her regular look (as seen below) is a full body outfit and lacks the sexiness of the regular attire for some of outfits of the later figures.

However, like all other Busou Shinki figures, Arnval comes with various pieces of armor, which can be used to customize her look, and in her case, I definitely felt that she looked better in armor, as seen in this picture, in which I added a helmet at leg wear to her.

Now comes the sad part of this blog post (as well as why I think this figure has received such low ratings here): Given how this is pretty much the first Busou Shinki figure released, Konami had a lot to learn when it came to releasing them. The biggest problem: outside of the helmet and the leggings, Konami gave absolutely no instructions on how to connect the other pieces that Arnval sports onto the figure. Thus, people who bought the figure were forced to look at the reference picture to see what to do next. Long story short: because of this, I screwed up big time and as a result, one piece that's needed for the wing portion of the figure broke off, meaning I couldn't include the wings as part of my main pose for her.

Luckily, I was still able to salvage the main armor look that I was hoping to give Arnval as you can see below.

In the end, I'm very disappointed that I wasn't able to set up Arnval in the pose that I wanted to see her in (due to some damage in the wing portion), but I still made it so that she looked good in her regular pose.

Thankfully, the other two Busou Shinki that I got at Otakon didn't fall victim to the same "armor damage" problem that Arnval faced. However, those will be saved for a later date.

P.S. Before you ask: I haven't taken any 3D pictures of Arnval (or Maochao). However, I do have something neat saved up for the Maryceles report.

Wow, 30 bucks for the original Arnval is a absolute steal! I'm sorry to hear about your Arnval breaking a bit. Out of curiousity I kind of want to know exactly/see which part broke off...........

Oh yeah, I myself was surprised at Arnval selling for $30 at Otakon (since, being an anime convention, I was expecting about $50-$60 for her). As soon as I found out how much she cost, that was an instant buy for me.

As for the broken piece, here's a picture of it (alongside a similar piece that isn't broken):

Given how the part that broke off is currently stuck in one of the wings, I don't think repair is possible.
