Figure News: Nendoroid Generation is really happening
11 May 2011 01:38:01
I still can't believe that they're making a Nendoroid video game. I mean, GSC may be on great terms with much of the video game industry (they've made promotional Petit Nendoroids for everyone from Nippon Ichi to Arc System Works), but they're actually getting their own video game? Why!?
...But lo and behold, Nendoroid Generation exists, and Namco-Bandai has confirmed that it's not a twisted prank via way of a trailer for the game.
While the trailer is rather entertaining (if only for the implausibility of Dead Master and Nanoha Takamachi dancing on a happy-rainbow-stage), it doesn't reveal an awful lot about the game that isn't already known. That being said, Namco-Bandai has confirmed a couple of interesting tidbits about the game:
-It's about 30% complete right now, and they're aiming for a holiday season 2011 release.
-At the moment, around ten franchises are planned to be represented, with each franchise having two or three characters.
-There will be some characters who haven't actually gotten a Nendoroid figure in the game (Fate's Rider and Rin Tohsaka were shown in the trailer, but neither of them have gotten a conventional Nendoroid).
But this is where the fun part begins - the speculation! While the first four confirmed franchises were all givens due to their mega-cash-cow status, we still don't know if they're going to stick to cash-cow franchises for other characters. Crypton's Vocaloids are probably a given, both because of Crypton and GSC's buddy-status (unless the former's bond with SEGA is going to disrupt their presence in a Namco-Bandai game). Likewise, we'll probably see at least one other Kyoto Animation property, probably K-ON! (unless they wanted to promote the inevitable Nichijou Nendoroids). One relatively plausible theory would be hidden mascot characters - GSC's would inevitably be Gumako, but who would Namco-Bandai (or rather, Namco) get? Maybe we'll see a Nendoroid KOS-MOS or some Soul Calibur characters in the game?
Anyway, let the hopin', dreamin', and speculatin' commence!
