Figure News: Revoltech Predator falls prey to mediocrity
17 Jan 2011 21:36:36

Kaiyodo's Sci-Fi Revoltech Predator has been eagerly anticipated ever since it was revealed almost a year ago. Well, images of the final-release Predator have emerged, and the result is... underwhelming.

You might want to get to the chopper to get away from this failure.

At this point, it's kind of hard to tell if the strange appearance is the result of bad design or merely poor posing. On one hand, that massive gap in the chest can easily be fixed by moving the joint forward a bit - this would also make the body look less freakishly-long. But on the other hand, the limbs look a bit stubby, and the head appears huge - even more so with the helmet.

"Why can't I see through this helmet!?"

But the large head isn't as inaccurate as people are making it out to be. The Sci-Fi Revoltech figures are based on the physical suits used in the movies rather than concept art, and the actual Predator costume did have a very large head (this was cleverly concealed by an excellent choice of camera angles). It also seems like the head would look a fair bit smaller if the dreadlocks weren't poofing out so much - this can be fixed with patience and hot water.

And the limbs are weird in that they look too small in some poses, and just fine in others. I think this is going to be one of those figures where we'll just have to wait and see what it looks like in the hands of the public. Not that we have to wait long - Predator and Gigan will probably ship out late next week. Anyway, is there anyone who was interested in the Predator who was put off? Or does it look fine to you? Sound off below!
