Figure News: Kotobukiya and Kaiyodo aim for the top
13 Dec 2010 22:32:50

This week has been a wonderful week for fans of Gainax's classic OVA Gunbuster. First off, Kotobukiya's D-style SD model kit of the titular mecha is now shipping!

D'awwww, so dinky and cute for a Buster Machine~

It should be noted that the kit in the image has been painted. I'll add pictures of the painted version once they show up. But this is small-time compared to the big announcement.

Remember how Revoltech Yamaguchi #100 was another EVA-01? Well, #101 completely makes up for that. It's none other than Gunbuster! No images have surfaced yet, but Kaiyodo has confirmed that preorders will open this Wednesday. It'll probably look somewhat like the 2005 Kaiyodo Gunbuster, also sculpted by Katsuhisa Yamaguchi.

Kind of like this, only more posable and more awesome.

Knowing Kaiyodo, the Revoltech will probably be released sometime between April and June, but we won't know for sure until Wednesday. Also unexpected was an announcement from Medicos Entertainment regarding their JoJo's Bizarre Adventure S.A.S. line.

The S.A.S. figures of Dio Brando and his Stand The World were among the earlier releases in the S.A.S. line, and they never got reissued. However, there was still a ton of demand for the two (c'mon, it's Dio Brando we're talking about), to the point where they sold for upwards of 20,000Y in Akibahara. So I'm delighted to announce to you that Medicos will be reissuing them in March of next year! This calls for a celebratory cry of victory!

Anyway, the reissues are going to be for their original price of 3500Y (much more reasonable than $200USD), so people who missed these two (myself included) can breathe a sigh of relief.

So, is anyone excited about Revoltech Gunbuster, or the Dio/The World reissues? I know my body is ready!

A posable, and hopefully reasonably priced Gunbuster...as a revoltech...I've been waiting to hear about this for the longest of time. Now to cross my fingers for a posable Nono

You Nono who needs a Figma?

...But in all seriousness, a Nono Figma doesn't seem that impossible. Max Factory seems to be on pretty good terms with Gainax (what with Makina and the Eva girls and so on), and Masaki Apsy has already sculpted an articulated Nono (it was a garage kit). So it would be pretty easy for them to update that sculpt.

Come to think of it, Nono seems like a pretty solid choice for a Figma. She's moe enough for the moe-crowd to like her, she's mecha enough to appeal to mecha fans (especially in Buster Machine no. 7 mode), and wouldn't be too hard to engineer. Seems a lot more logical than Mirai, at least...

I completely agree; however, I'm just afraid that Nono might be not be recent enough for Max Factory. Nonetheless I knoe who needs a Figma and hope for it too, as for Mirai, Japanese companies man they work in mysterious ways.

Lum, Duke Togo, and KOS-MOS would like to have a word with you.

But in all seriousness, I think the only thing we can do at this point is wait, hope, and see.
