Figure News: Marching maid mania, and an unexpected Figma
13 Dec 2010 21:15:24

Sorry about the lack of updates recently, but to be blunt, there really hasn't been much news in the world of figures this past week or so. The only major occurrences were Treasure Festa (which is more about can-never-have garage kits), some surprise reissues, and some unexpected Figma and Revoltech announcements. Anyway, my apologies!

For some reason, there's been a little bit of a maid/waitress obsession this week. New figures have been announced of maids both obscure and Poplar, so let's take a look at some offerings!

Chara-Many Series - Poplar Taneshima Corps

So prepare for the coup of the century; Be prepared for the murkiest scam...

This was completely out of nowhere, to be honest. A new manufacturer, Proovy, is attempting to join the figure-fray by filling a previously-untapped niche - small armies of characters. The first box in the Chara-Many series would be WORKING!!'s Poplar Taneshima, based on a scene in one of the show's openings depicting an army of Poplars marching onwards. I'm not sure why they thought this would be a good idea, but I've gotta admit that the figures look really cute, and it's a series that hasn't gotten a lot of figure love. Anyway, this box of nine Poplars (one of which has a despaired expression) will be shipping in March for 3500-4500Y. Also unexpected was a new Figma announcement.

Meido, meido, meido no miyage...

Hotori Arashiyama, protagonist of the currently-airing Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, is going to be receiving a Figma! No alternative expressions or accessories of the clumsy maid have been revealed yet, but we'll probably see something within the next two weeks or so. I really do love it when they do completely out-of-the-blue surprise announcements like this; even more so when it's a character from a franchise that doesn't already have Figmas. Surprise announcements like Summer Wars' King Kazma and Gag Manga Biyori's Prince Shotoku made me squeal with delight, because they were among the last characters I'd ever expect a Figma of. And while I'm pretty indifferent about Hotori here, I'm sure someone is very happy about this.

Anyway, anyone planning to build an army of Poplars, or surprised/excited by Figma Hotori? Sound off below!
