BRS RPG Game Announced

A website has opened to announce that the Black Rock Shooter franchise will be adapted into a role-playing game. The jrpg.jp domain is registered to Ryu's Office, the company headed by publicity producer and creative director Ryuta Konuma (Valkyria Chronicle II, Persona 3/4). The website is running a movie which says, "In the year 2032 AD, mankind was decimated. Before she wakes up…. She becomes RPG."

No news about the platform yet. Any guesses?

Really? Really!? They're really milking this cash cow for all its worth, aren't they? Still, though, if it's got staff members from Persona 3/4, I'm reasonably hopeful that the gameplay will be good. As for the story, though... I'm not gettin' my hopes up.

Also, my guess for the platform would be the PS3, because that's pretty much the #1 console for JRPGs.

Gosh, I can't believe it's gonna be a game of real value of PS3 level. A kind of mini-game maybe? Otherwise they will have to spend all the money they earned by selling merchandise.

I dunno, they've made a TON of money from the merchandise - 320000000 yen from the B*RS Figma alone - so they've probably got quite a bit of money to put into this project.

Hmmm. The last PS3 JRPG I played was Resonance of Fate. I just can't imagine the same kind of game out of BRS. Nor the plot, neither the gameplay. Especially after the slice-of-life OVA. It's just another level of entertainment.

I dunno, it doesn't seem like they're emphasizing the slice-of-life aspect just yet. The trailer was all "Mankind has died out and so on," and the environment looked pretty post-apocalyptic.

Come to think of it, I just realized that a game like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta would work much better for Black*Rock Shooter. Running around, shootin' stuff and slashing your way through levels, pulling off crazy stunts...

That's what I would like the game to be. That or anarc system works style 2d fighting game. We can only hope.

Yeah, but we were promised an RPG, not Action-Adventure, so... And when it comes to trailers, we already have an OVA example of how "accurate" they may be. But well, why so negative? Let's hope for a first-rate game!

To be fair, people had extremely high hopes for the OVA, and we all know how that turned out. I'm gonna keep my expectations low - if it turns out to be good, then that's fine, and if it doesn't turn out so great, nothing lost.

Weeeeeeell, hate to burst yer bubble, but this is by the same guy who directed Persona 3/4 - both of which have a signficant slice-of-life aspect. UNLIKE the B*RS OVA, however, said slice-of-life parts manage to be interesting and actually significantly affect the combat portions (which do indeed take up half of the game, once again unlike the OVA).

Also, they're probably gonna make this a PSN/XBox Live free/relatively cheap download, since it's probably (like the OVA) mainly gonna be used to market the figures.

They might throw in English subs like the OVA DVD/Blu-ray did - the more countries that can access it, the more countries that can buy the moichandise, after all. That's another reason I think a PS3 release would make sense - it's the only one of the current-gen consoles that's region-free (aside from the handhelds).
