PS3 (fat) epic fail

PS3 (fat) epic fail
01 Mar 2010 19:39:02

I just switched on my PS3 in order to play a bit before going to bed... and only found I'm not able to because of 8001050F error! WTF?! I googled the error and it turned out this is a wide-spread problem of all PS3 fat consoles. Oh, what a mass... People all over the world can't play because of... calm down, girl... It probably would be better if I copy-past some other's info. Have you heard about it? Read, here:

Today it appears PSN crashed, with widespread reports of error code 8001050F - hardware failure for PS3 (non-Slim) consoles!

Sony has Tweeted the following, to quote: "We're aware that many of you are having problems connecting to PSN, and yes, we're looking into it. Stay tuned for updates."

Sony has also issued a PS Blog Update and second Tweet stating: "PSN status update: We're narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all. Updates as soon as we have them."

This is currently happening to a LOT of people, and some are concerned their PlayStation 3 entertainment system is now bricked as a result!

8001050F - Hardware failure. Cannot update Firmware or connect to Internet.

Heavy Rain gives a different error (same error code) than "hardware failure" it says "Can't register trophy information. The game will now quit"

Can't connect to PSN ("An error has occured. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network. (8001050F)").

Can't load up disks ("Registration of the trophy information could not be completed. The game will quit. (8001050F)").

Can't play any downloaded titles ("The copyright protection information is invalid. (80029513)") For some reason all the downloaded games have no owner, so they don't work.

System time changed to Dec 31, 1999 (YOU CAN'T EVEN MANUALLY SET IT THAT LOW).

The only things that will work are demos, and the free version of FlOw (has no copyright information.

So guys, what do you think about it? Have you experienced this as well?

Wow, I'm so sorry. That really sucks. I actually have the "slim" version so I'm not having any problems with mine. Weird that it seems to only effect the old PS3's. The only big problem I have had with PSN was this.
I should call my friends who own the "fat" version to see if they got this problem after they get off work. Sorry again. You have my sympathy. Hope it's fixed soon. :)

Ah, I see. So you got yours not so long ago?
I bought mine back when Sony just launched it. Not the same day off course, but close. I remember there were almost no games for it for quite a while. Had to buy Motorstorm, Resistance and Virtual Fighter XD

Yeah, the lack of games I was interested in was the main reason it took so long for me to finally get one. Especially since I still had (and still have) a ton of games for PS2 that I haven't gotten a chance to play yet. And I also wanted to wait for the price to go down a bit. When the price came down to $300 and FFXIII was just around the corner I figured it was time to finally get it.

Oh man this is horrible! I just checked myself and my ps3 can only play dvd/blurays. Strangely the backwards compatibility still works. :D I miss the days when game systems weren't entirely dependent on the internet.

Given how I currently own a slim-PS3 (which I got to replace a "fat" one that stopped playing disc-based games properly a few days before last Xmas), I didn't experience any problems with my system yesterday (with me playing Bayonetta and downloading the latest version of Warhawk around the time the problem began to make its presence known). However, I did warn my boss at work (who also owns a PS3) about the situation, and I'm holding back playing Dante's Inferno (which came in the mail today) until tomorrow (luckily, there's still my usual Monday night TV, Mega Man 10 for the Wii, and a couple of Negima books that also came in the post today to keep me entertained today).

Congratulations with new loot!
And well, sorry for you fatty friend. Did Sony replace it or you had to pay yourself?

When it came to replacing the PS3, even though the regular warranty expired for the system, I did manage to pick up an extended warranty at Best Buy when I got the old system. Hence, while it did cost some money, that was only for getting an extended warranty for the new PS3 system, as it didn't cost anything to replace the old, broken one.

And then came the 2nd of March and everything has turned to normal. Just unpleasant aftertaste remains...

Good to hear. Hope we don't have too many more problems like this in the future....
